How to Adopt from Pet Matchmaker

We will work with you to match the right dog to the right family. Our goal is to find these dogs permanent homes where they will be treated as a member of the family for the rest of their lives.

Our adoption fees, which include transportation (for EAST COAST ADOPTIONS ONLY), all necessary vetting, quarantine (if applicable) and spay/neuter range from $250 to $450 depending on the dog.

The process

  • Complete and submit the adoption application. And please tell us about yourself so that we can do our best to ensure it is the “right match.” We will check your references and process your application.
  • If you’ve been approved as an adopter, and the dog is in a foster home in the Northeast, we will contact you to set up a time and location to meet the dog. You’ll be asked to sign an adoption contract and to pay the adoption fee prior to bringing the dog home with you.
  • If you’ve been approved as an adopter, and the dog is in the South, we will make the arrangements to bring the dog to the Northeast. You’ll be asked to sign an adoption contract and to pay the adoption fee prior to bringing the dog home with you.
  • If you’ve been approved as an adopter, and the dog is at the California rescue facility, we will contact you to set up an appointment to meet the dog. You’ll be asked to sign an adoption contract and to pay the adoption fee upon pick up.  We will occassionally fly dogs if the home that is chosen is out of driving range and it is absolutely necessary, but transportation cost will be at the adopters expense.  Adopters that can pick up directly will usually have priority.

Making sure it’s a match

There is a two week trial period for every adoption. If you find within the two weeks that the dog doesn’t fit well into your home, he or she will be moved into foster care, and the adoption fee minus $100 will be refunded.
